Why should you choose flame retardant fabric treatment?

 Fire retardant fabrics are used in almost everything from high-end upholstery to softer furnishings to the schoolroom curtains - but what exactly qualifies a piece of fabric as "fire retardant"? Flame-resistant and fire-retardant fabrics are essential safety tools in various industrial, commercial, and municipal applications. Technological improvements in these fabrics have facilitated the development of flame barriers, coverings, numerous types of personal protective equipment, and more. Flame retardant fabric treatment is the process by which a fabric is set to fire; it will not burn quickly and transfer to other things in the room. 

How is Fabric Made Flame Retardant? 

Flame retardant fabric can be made in two ways. The first way is to take regular fabric and treat it; the other way is for it to be explicitly made flame retardant, referred to as inherently flame retardant. The fibers used to create this are permanently flame retardant, meaning that because of the chemical structure of the polyester fiber, external influences can't affect them. This often means it is a better solution to the risk of fire than anything that may have been made and then coated with an additional flame protection finish. 

Fabric that has been coated can often wear off quickly with age or washing, meaning it must be replaced or checked upon to ensure it is still meeting requirements. Fabrics being created in a flame retardant way in the first instance means there is no expiry date, so they last much longer than something that is made and treated afterward. However, there are instances where designers may want a specific fabric to fit their desired room scheme. This may not be made in a flame-retardant material, so the designer must request that the cloth be treated with a flame-protective finish. This may be more expensive, but if the designer is set on a specific look or fabric, that is the best way to meet the design requirements and fire regulations. 

How washable is your fire retardant fabric? 

What about caring for this indestructible fire-retardant textile, though? Is that likely going to be difficult? One of the most important factors when investing in fire retardant upholstery is understanding the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations: we will tell you ours. 

You've probably read that washing may destroy your fire retardant fabric's protection, but rest assured: that is untrue. In t with our fabrics case of cotton/nylon blends, for example, washing the fabric with chlorine bleach will remove their flame-resistant properties - that's another reason we went for 100% polyester. 

Applications of Flame Retardant Fabrics 

Flame retardant fabrics are usually used in the industrial worker wears, firefighters, military pilots' uniform, war-combat dresses, tent fabric, parachute fabric, professional motor racing apparel, etc. Materials like 'Twaron' are mainly used to withstand high temperatures in industries like firefighting. With Flame retardant fabric treatment, these are made more resilient. A flame retardant fabric protects the wearer against fires, electrical arcs, etc. It is mainly used in interior materials like curtains in hotels, hospitals, theatres, etc. 

Sometimes it adds a few life-saving minutes to escape from danger. Flame retardant fabrics save lives and protect people's property by helping to prevent the fires from starting and spreading.
